Hello everyone and welcome to the NEW Maelog blog. I'm writing this blog from the comfort of my training department desk at Timpson's. Now I know what you're thinking . . . "what's there to blog about the Maelog's not open?!" But all of us working behind the scenes on the project are getting very excited, so to let you in on the fun we will be posting regularly to keep you up to date with what's happening, as this really isn't a regular restaurant opening. So if you've not already heard about the plans then read on as we give you a brief overview.

John and Alex Timpson, who traditionally you'd call bosses (but they're really more like friends) bought the property following the success with The White Eagle. If you've not already been I really would recommend a visit as whilst I might be biased the reviews on trip advisor speak for themselves. Now, whilst the new Maelog promises to match The White Eagle's standards it has a new exciting aim "to give young people in the area a second chance in life".

The new Maelog project will not only be about serving quality food but will be about giving young people on the island an opportunity. Specifically we will be involved with running a twelve month chef's academy where young people can gain work experience, top qualifications and great career prospects in the catering industry. Even better we're looking for personality over qualifications so everyone can apply. GCSE's or no GCSE's!

If the project interests you, or you know someone who could use a break bring them along to our open day on the 12th of April at the White Eagle. If you can't make it or want to know more about the project either leave a comment for us or contact Roger the head chef for a chat on 01407 860267.

Now you're all up to date with where we are I best get back to brainstorming ideas for the website. But don't worry either myself or someone else working on the project will be blogging shortly, so watch this space!

Oh and one last thing, for those in search of dates for the opening, fingers crossed the new Maelog should be open by October.

  1. Does the Maelog Project pay ? As this is something which i would be very interested in however with a baby on the way and bills to pay i wouldnt like to leave my current job for it. I have always enjoyed cooking however leaving my job to go to colleage would be a struggle for me and my soon to be family :)

  2. Hello Nick,

Thanks for getting in contact. I don't deal with the financial side, however the person that deals with that would love to get in contact.

Could you email a contact number to peter.harris@timpson.com who can tell you about the pay, as I don't know the exact details.

    Thanks
    Kaylie
